In the heart of Tricase, overlooking Piazza Pisanelli, the Castle of the Gallone Princes tells centuries of history and transformations. The ancient fortified core, dating back to the Middle Ages, consisted of towers and defensive structures that protected the settlement.
Between 1657 and 1661, Stefano II Gallone, the first Prince of Tricase, transformed the ancient fortification into a sumptuous princely residence. The result is a unique building, where the austere aspect of the medieval castle coexists with the elegance of the noble palace.
Tradition has it that the prince wanted to create a room for every day of the year, in addition to a grand Throne Room, large enough to accommodate more than a thousand people.
Even today, the ancient towers recall their original defensive function, while the large body of the palace testifies to the power achieved by the Gallone family.
Purchased by the Municipality in the 1950s and subsequently restored, the palace is now the seat of the Municipality of Tricase: a place where the feudal history of the city continues to live in the heart of the community.
