The Church of the Madonna di Costantinopoli, known as Chiesa Nuova or Church of the Devils, stands along the old road that leads from Tricase to Tricase Porto, on the route of the Via Francigena. It was commissioned in 1684 by the Marquis Gattinara di San Martino, in a district where, according to popular tradition, the Malumbra terrorized the inhabitants.

Its unusual shape, an octagon, fueled the legend of a pact made between the prince of Tricase and the Devil himself, the supposed true architect of the building: hence the nickname by which it is still known today.

Linked for years to the fair of San Vito, the church experienced a slow decline until its prohibition for worship in 1878 and subsequent abandonment. Restored by the Municipality, it was returned to the city in 2013, after over a century of silence.
