Territorial Assistance Center of Poggiardo
Born from the transformation of the former Francesco Pispico hospital, the PTA of Poggiardo is now an important healthcare reference point for the southeastern Salento area. The facility brings together specialized services, territorial assistance, continuity of care, rehabilitation, counseling, mental health, home care, and administrative services, serving a catchment area of 15 municipalities.

1. It is a healthcare reference point for a wide area of Salento
The Social-Health District of Poggiardo serves 15 municipalities: Andrano, Botrugno, Castro, Diso, Giuggianello, Minervino, Nociglia, Ortelle, Poggiardo, San Cassiano, Sanarica, Santa Cesarea Terme, Spongano, Surano, and Uggiano la Chiesa.
This is probably one of the most interesting aspects to communicate: it is not simply a healthcare facility for the residents of Poggiardo, but a territorial center for a much larger area.
2. It offers numerous healthcare and specialized services
The PTA includes clinics and specialized centers, as well as rehabilitation services, mental health, counseling, and continuity of care. There is also a pharmacy, services for aids/prosthetics, and home care assistance.
3. It is strongly oriented towards territorial healthcare
One of its main features is the integration between healthcare services and assistance in the territory: PUA (Single Access Point), home care/ADI, territorial medicine, and administrative services are concentrated in the same facility.
4. Particularly interesting is the Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition service
There is a specialized service that follows the patient not only through outpatient visits but also in the hospital-territory pathway and, when necessary, at home.
It deals, among other things, with obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, chronic kidney failure, allergies and food intolerances, as well as the management of malnutrition and home artificial nutrition.
5. A Family Counseling service is available
The counseling service offers gynecological services and involves various professionals, including gynecologists, psychologists, midwives, social workers, and nurses.
6. It is also a point of access to administrative healthcare services
